A Kalahari Story – now available as PDF e-book
This is a story about the Boteti river in Botswana, which was a dry riverbed, coursing through a wasteland when I first saw it. Or so I thought. The wasteland turned out to be a fascinating place, and over several years I got to know the survival strategies of many animals. Thousands of Zebra and Wildebeest depended on the few remaining seepage pools in this dry riverbed. But this stage has many actors. This riverbed is also home to lions, elephant and some unlikely survivors.
The river has its origin in the Okavango delta, and goes through cyclical periods of drought which can last up to ten years and even more, during which it dries up completely. This book documents through the words of the author as well as wonderfully detailed imagery, the story of the Boteti river.
